This is AMAZING...

Can anyone explain how it works?

i know trying to figure it out would involve math, so i'm going to let somebody else figure it out.

sneakysneakysneaky....

btw, totally off-topic, i love sliding doors too!

That's cool. I understand what is happening but is there some funky math that causes it?

Yes Alex... I want to know how it works. I haven't given it that much thought though. I knew someone out there would have the answer

Oh! I remember doing this with a group of my students a few years ago when we were practicing using English to make suggestions. I had a fab time getting them to make suggestions for how it works.

Do you still want to know how it works?????

Yes Yes Yes please. I do want to know how it works. I had one suggestion so far but I didn't agree...
Please tell me!

The part I understand is that you are always led to a number that is a multiple of nine and the symbol for multiples of nine are the same.

1-9 lead you to 0
10-19 lead you to 9
20-29 lead you to 18
...etc

but I don't if there is some funky complex mathematical proof that produces that outcome.

FYI the part that makes it seem clever/amazing is that when you refresh the page (when you "try again"), the symbols all change. So even though it's always a multiple of 9, the chart changes each time so you don't just get the same symbol each time. Watch the chart. Compare the symbols from one trial to the next.

I found this at work once and spent a while figuring out out.

If you really want to see something amazing, check out http://20q.net/ It's an artificial-intelligence game of Twenty Questions. The site will ask you questions and figure out what object you're thinking of. It got pacifier and chopstick right last time. Guaranteed to waste at least two hours of your time.

Wakata.
Thanks guys... Thanks Angela.
I totally get it now. The answer is always a multiple of 9 ie, 9, 18, 27, 36 etc...
The bit that tricked me ws that it seemed random. Bust these numbers have the same symbol and that symbol changes each game.
Still cool.

Well both mind reader and 20q has successfully wasted many of minutes. I sent the link to work, to see how the public service can capitalise on total time wastage!
Oh the joys...
